Delhi University climbs to 322nd position in 2027 QS World University rankings

The University of Delhi (DU) has improved its position in the QS World University Rankings 2027 by securing the 322nd rank globally. The university was ranked 328th in the 2026 edition, marking an improvement of six places. The latest ranking highlights DU’s continued progress on the international stage and reinforces its position among India's leading higher education institutions.
Sharing the achievement, Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh said the university has maintained its status as the top-ranked public university in India. It has also retained its seventh position among all higher education institutions in the country.
The QS World University Rankings 2027 assessed 8,808 institutions across the world. Out of these, 1,504 universities from 106 countries and territories secured a place in the final rankings. India had 52 institutions featured in the rankings. Among them, Delhi University continued to strengthen its standing at both the national and global levels.
Commenting on the achievement, DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh stated, "The improvement in the QS World University Rankings 2027 is a reflection of the dedication and collective efforts of our faculty members, students, researchers, staff, alumni and all stakeholders of the University. The continued rise in our global standing, coupled with our position among India's leading universities, demonstrates the strength of our academic ecosystem and our commitment to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, sustainability and societal engagement. We remain focused on further enhancing the quality, impact and global visibility of the University while contributing meaningfully to the advancement of higher education and nation-building."
Along with the improvement in ranking, the university also recorded an increase in its overall score. DU’s score rose from 42.6 in the 2026 rankings to 43.8 in the 2027 edition. The improvement reflects the university’s growing performance across several important academic and institutional indicators.
One of the most significant gains was recorded in the Citations per Faculty indicator. Delhi University improved its position from 403 to 318, gaining 85 places. This advancement reflects the increasing quality, visibility and impact of the university’s research output. The improvement indicates that research produced by DU scholars is receiving greater recognition within the global academic community.
The university also made notable progress in the Sustainability indicator. It climbed from the 297th position to 240th place, registering a gain of 57 positions. The rise highlights the university’s growing focus on environmental responsibility and social impact initiatives. The performance demonstrates DU’s commitment to sustainability as an important part of its institutional development.
Another area of improvement was Employer Reputation. The university moved up from 319th to 304th position, gaining 15 places. This indicator reflects how employers across the world perceive graduates from the institution. The improvement suggests increasing recognition of Delhi University students and alumni in the job market.
Delhi University also performed strongly in several indicators at the national level. It secured the second position among Indian institutions in Employment Outcomes. This reflects the success of its graduates in securing employment and making professional contributions in different sectors.
In the Sustainability category, DU ranked fourth among Indian institutions, improving from sixth position in the previous year. The university also secured the fourth rank nationally in the International Research Network indicator, highlighting its growing collaboration with researchers and institutions across the world.
In Academic Reputation, Delhi University retained its sixth position among Indian institutions. The indicator reflects the perception of academics regarding the quality of teaching and research at universities across the globe. Retaining this position demonstrates the university’s continued academic credibility and recognition.
The latest QS rankings underline Delhi University’s steady progress across key areas such as research, sustainability, employability and global engagement. The improvement in its overall ranking, along with gains across multiple indicators, reflects the institution’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its academic ecosystem and expand its international presence. With its continued focus on excellence and innovation, the university remains one of India's most prominent higher education institutions.
