In a six-month-old blind murder case, the Delhi police nabbed a man named Aftab Amin Poonawalla for murdering his Hindu live-in partner Shraddha Walkar and disposing of her chopped body into 35 pieces and scattering them all over Delhi to escape the clutches of law.
According to reports, the couple is from western Mumbai city in Maharashtra state. Aftab is a food blogger and runs a social media page with his brother Ahad Poonawala.
It was during this time that he met through a dating app. The two started a live-in relationship in Mumbai, which her family opposed. So they shifted to Delhi and started living in the Chhatarpur area.
Her estranged family continued to follow her on social media, but when she stopped posting updates, her worried father lodged a missing person complaint in May. He suspected her partner Aftab had a hand in her disappearance.
During interrogation, Aftab confessed to the crime and said that they often fought as Walkar was pressurising him for marriage. On May 18 this year, he strangled her to death.
The accused then purchased a refrigerator and stored her body in it for several days. He chopped his partner into 35 pieces and disposed them at 18 different locations in Delhi. For 18 nights, he wrapped those parts in black plastic and went out to dispose of them one by one at 2 AM in the night in the nearby jungle area.
The police have filed a case of murder and are searching for Shraddha’s body.
Aftab watched many crime movies and web series including 'Dexter' before committing the crime, revealed Delhi Police sources.
