A young woman frustrated by her futile pleas for justice attempted to immolate herself near UP CM Yogi Adityanath's residence. Before this could sink in, a more horrid news of her father's death in police custody emerged.
It is alleged that since the accused is a BJP MLA, the ruling party has gone soft on the case ever since it was reported in June 2017. Here’s the timeline of this case:
On June 4, 2017, the girl alleged she was raped in the house of BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar when she went to meet him with a neighbor to seek his help in getting employment. Three days later, on June 11, she went missing and a complaint was lodged with the police. A week later she was recovered from a village in Auraiya and brought to Unnao the next day.
The police produced her before the court and her statement was recorded under Section 164 of CRPC in which she alleged that the police did not allow her to name the MLA Kuldeep Sengar in her statement.
The girl also went to Delhi alleging police harassment and started sending complaints to the CM’s office and senior police officers seeking registration of rape case against the MLA and his brother Atul Singh. In February this year, the girl’s mother moved to the court of CJM, Unnao, seeking registration of FIR under Section 156 (3) of CRPC.
On April 3, 2018, the Court hears the mother’s plea. The same evening the alleged rape victim's father was assaulted by MLA's brother Atul Singh and his aides. In an audio conversation played on India Today, Kuldeep Singh Sengar was caught on tape threatening rape victim's relative asking them to withdraw the case.
In a horrific tale of apathy and crime, the victim who was beaten unconscious was handed over to the police after lodging a case against him of illegal possession of firearms under Section 25 of CRPC and sent to jail after a medical examination at the district hospital. Shocking!
In another video, the Unnao rape victim's father was seen lying injured in the hospital where instead of being treated, the victim's father's fingerprints are being taken. The rape victim's father said that he was thrashed by the Kuldeep Sengar's brother Atul Singh Sengar and 3-4 other associates. "They kept hitting me till I fainted and almost died while the Police were standing there, which didn't help or save me." said rape victim's father.
This made police suspend the Station Officer and five policemen of Makhi police station. I don't know how Police and administration can explain this. The 6 suspended cops definitely didn't act on their own. The Neta responsible for all this is still roaming free and insensitively issuing statements. What a shame!
On April 8, 2018, the girl attempted self-immolation at the CM’s residence in Lucknow, demanding an FIR against the accused MLA.
The victim's father later died at the district hospital hours after he is shifted from district jail. The post-mortem report revealed that the victim died of injuries which were 14 in number. How inhumane and shameful is that?
When questioned by the media, the MLA brazenly denied the allegations against him and instead blamed the victim’s family, claiming it was a “ploy by people of lower classes” to “taint his image.”
Kuldeep Singh Sengar earned the reputation of a ‘bahubali’ politician by siding with whichever party is in power from BSP to SP to BJP. The four-time MLA has switched sides and seats every time he has contested an election. This is what happens when you induct filth for marginal gains. The Bhartiya Janata Party is destroying its roots by importing filth from every junkyard and it would go down eventually by mindlessly inducting every turncoat.
His brothers Manoj and Atul manage the muscle and money power of the family. Atul Singh Sengar, the brother of BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar, has been arrested only after the girl’s father died. Three other people have also been arrested.
Atul rose to infamy in 2004, when he allegedly shot at the then Adl. SP Ramlal Verma when he was reportedly trying to stop illegal. A case was registered, but the police officer chose to arrive at a compromise within five days of the incident.
Atul’s name also cropped up in another case where he allegedly opened fire on the father of a journalist working with a Hindi newspaper in Danakhori area of Unnao in 2014. My blood boils. No punishment is enough for these criminals.
Fearing a public backlash, the Yogi Adityanath administration has ordered a judicial probe. So far four accused have been arrested, six police are suspended. But the real disgrace is that Kuldeep Singh Sanger, a notorious goon who runs extortion rackets and being a leader of sand mafia, now also an accused of rape and murder, has not yet been arrested. Forget arrest, no FIR yet in his name neither being suspended from the party, the BJP.
Instead, he has written a letter to his party in which he tried to lay down the motives of the victims for allegedly running a campaign against him. And some party spokespersons are trying to defend the indefensible.
“MLA Kuldeep Sengar raped me. He took me to his home where he raped me. When he was raping me, I tried to protest but he threatened me saying that if I complained to anyone about it, he would get my entire family killed and thrown away,” the alleged victim told the media. “When I went to the police station, no one listened to me. I went to the Chief Minister as well, gave my application everywhere, completed so many registration processes all across Delhi, but no one registered my complaint,” she added.
What else on requires to file an FIR and arrest the accused? In addition, there are other pieces of evidence in public domain:
- The rape accused MLA threatening complainant's uncle on the phone.
- The eyewitness account of woman's father being brutally beaten by MLA's brother.
- Post-mortem report shows the extent of his horrific injuries.
Despite all the gang rape accused MLA, instead of being arrested, is smiling to cameras, making obnoxious comments about the victim’s family. Beyond shocking!!
On Sunday, a day before he was suspended, Makhi Station Officer Ashok Singh claimed that the girl never mentioned the MLA in her initial complaint. On Monday, DIG (L&O) Praveen Kumar also said that in her complaint lodged in June last year, the victim had not mentioned the name of the MLA, not even in her statement recorded before a magistrate.
This is all farce. There is always a way to add more names in the case under the 319 CRPC which the UP Police did not apply, purposely. What a blot on Yogi Adityanath's otherwise stellar record on law and order!
While CM Yogi has said that the guilty will not be spared, we all know that the wheels of justice in this country turn very slowly. Yogi Adityanath has gained fame for having sent criminals running into jails to protect themselves. Yogi Adityanath would be in a very bad place if he lets this BJP MLA accused of rape go unpunished. You cannot bring Ram Rajya with this brazen level of hideousness.
Meanwhile, on CM's direction, the rape victim was taken back to her village and a Special Investigation Team is at her residence. The team will be submitting the preliminary investigation report to Yogi Govt. on Wednesday evening.
Yogi Ji your time starts now. Set an example. A quick and exemplary action is necessary, irrespective of who they are.
