The Pakistani army opened fire without provocation across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, targeting areas near Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor. This marked the 14th straight day of ceasefire violations by Pakistan. In retaliation for India's Operation Sindoor, heavy artillery and mortar shelling by the Pakistan army led to the deaths of 13 people, including four children and one soldier. "During the night of May 7-8, 2025, Pakistan Army posts resorted to unprovoked fire using Small Arms and Artillery Guns across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor areas in J&K. Indian Army responded proportionately," says a statement from the Indian Army.
A day after India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan opened unprovoked fire across the border. In the early hours of Wednesday, May 7, India carried out 24 targeted missile strikes on nine terror bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These camps were known to be operated by Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The operation began at 1:05 am and lasted for 25 minutes, resulting in the deaths of 70 terrorists and injuries to 60 others. The action was taken following the Pahalgam attack that left 26 civilians, including a Nepali citizen, dead.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said, “Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in the selection of targets and the method of execution.” The statement further added, “We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held responsible.”
The Pakistan army launched one of its heaviest artillery and mortar attacks in recent years, targeting frontline villages along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. Dinesh Kumar Sharma, a soldier from Haryana, lost his life in the cross-border firing in Jammu's Poonch region. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini announced the news on social media, stating, "Every citizen of the country is proud of your martyrdom. This country will never forget your sacrifice. I salute this martyrdom."
On April 22, terrorists launched an attack in Baisaran Valley, a scenic tourist destination often called "Mini Switzerland" for its lush greenery and rolling hills. Witnesses said that gunfire triggered chaos among visitors, who scrambled for safety in the open area with few places to hide. This incident stands out as one of the most severe terror attacks since Article 370 was revoked in 2019. Then, beginning the night of April 24, just hours after India stopped the Indus Waters Treaty in response to the Pahalgam attack, Pakistani forces started unprovoked firing along various points of the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, starting from the Kashmir region.
