A curfew has been re-imposed in Imphal West District starting Saturday at 4:30 am until further notice, due to the current law and order situation in the region.
Previously, the curfew had been relaxed from 5:00 am to 8:00 pm on November 16, as announced on November 15. However, this relaxation has now been cancelled immediately. People providing essential services, such as healthcare workers, are exempt from the curfew.
Th Kirankumar, the district magistrate for the Imphal West District, issued the following directive on Saturday, “Now, due to the developing law and order situation in the district, the above-mentioned curfew relaxation order stands cancelled with immediate effect, i.e., from 4:30 pm on November 16, 2024. Total curfew is imposed with effect from 4:30 pm on November 16, 2024, until further orders.”
“All persons involved in essential services such as health, electricity, CAF & PD, PHED, petrol pumps, municipality, press and electronic media, functioning of courts, and to-and-fro movement of flight passengers to the airport, as well as contractors/workers with valid Airport Entry Permit (AEP) cards, shall be exempted from the curfew,” the order further stated.
During a total curfew, exemptions are granted for essential services and specific categories, including health services, electricity and water supply (PHED), public distribution (CAF & PD), petrol pumps, municipal services, press and electronic media, and the functioning of courts. Additionally, movement is permitted for passengers travelling to or from the airport with valid permits, as well as for contractors and workers holding valid Airport Entry Permits (AEPs) within the district.
Citizens have been urged to comply with the curfew orders and refrain from any activities that could exacerbate the situation. Authorities have assured that essential services will remain operational during this period. The administration continues to monitor the situation closely, and further updates are expected as it evolves.
