Since the outbreak of ethnic violence in May 2023, the CRPF has taken down a total of 167 illegal bunkers, checkpoints, and posts set up by armed miscreants across Manipur. Of these, 37 were removed in March 2025 alone.
During large-scale operations in the northeast last month, the CRPF's quick action teams (QATs) made significant progress by arresting 17 individuals, 13 of them in Manipur, and seizing a huge cache of weapons and materials. Among the recoveries were 242 arms, with 240 from Manipur alone, along with 1,151 bullets, 39 grenades, 78 bombs, 13 rockets, nine IEDs, five detonators, 121 gelatin sticks, 304 kg of narcotics, and various communication devices and military gear. Between May 3, 2023, and March 31, 2025, the CRPF took down 167 illegal bunkers, checkpoints, and posts in Manipur. Kangpokpi district saw the most with 68 (about 22%), followed by 40 in Imphal East, 31 in Churachandpur, 14 in Imphal West, seven in Jiribam, four in Senapati, and three in Tamenglong.
Last month, CRPF's Quick Action Teams (QATs) carried out nine intelligence-led operations, during which they took down 37 illegal bunkers, checkpoints, and posts set up by armed groups. Of these, 30 were found in Kangpokpi district and seven in Imphal East. Since ethnic violence erupted in Manipur in May 2023, around 260 people have lost their lives. However, the state has not reported any deaths over the past four months, which was marked by the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the subsequent imposition of President’s Rule.
