A case has been registered against four immigration agents from Karnal, Haryana, under the Immigration Act. The complaint was filed by three recently deported individuals from the United States, as reported by News18.
The names of the accused agents and the complainants have not yet been disclosed.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently stated that deporting individuals involved in illegal immigration to the U.S. has been an ongoing process and is not a new occurrence. He also assured that the Indian government is actively coordinating with U.S. authorities to ensure that deported Indian nationals are treated fairly.
The External Affairs Minister made this statement in the Rajya Sabha in response to criticism from opposition parties regarding the alleged mistreatment of 104 illegal Indian immigrants who arrived in Amritsar on Wednesday aboard a U.S. military plane. Reports suggest that several deportees claimed they were shackled during the journey.
Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala stated that the deportees, including 19 women, were restrained for 40 hours and had only limited access to restroom facilities during their transportation.
“Is this indicative of how one behaves with terrorists or militants, or is this a humane way to deal with Indians,” Jaishankar expressed. Jaishankar responded to criticism in Parliament by saying, “We are engaging the US government to ensure that the returning deportees are not mistreated in any manner during the flight”.
“It is in our collective interest to encourage legal mobility and discourage illegal movement." Indian agencies will choose to take “preventive and exemplary actions against a network of agents facilitating illegal migration from India”, Jaishankar further said.
Jaishankar emphasised the need for strict action against the illegal migration industry while also advocating for measures to simplify the visa process for genuine travellers. Jaishankar said in the Parliament, “Our focus should be on a strong crackdown”.
