According to the police, as many as 87 packets of charas have been found washed ashore in Gujarat's Kutch and Porbandar districts in recent days. This is the latest in a series of such seizures within the state.
Of these, 81 packets of charas, valued at over ₹40 crore, were recovered in Kutch district over the past three to four days, with 40 of them found on Monday alone, they reported.
Separately, police in Porbandar recovered six packets of cannabis from the coastal village of Odadar on Monday.
Over 200 packets of narcotics have been discovered washed ashore in the coastal districts of Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Porbandar in recent days. Police have intensified their search operations, using drones and human intelligence to locate them.
Police on Monday recovered 40 packets of charas from near the sea coast in Mandvi taluka of Kutch district.
With this, the number of charas packets found in areas such as Nal Sarovar, Jakhau, and Mandvi over the past three days has risen to 81. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth ₹40 crore, Kutch Superintendent of Police Mahendra Bagadiya said on Monday.
A few days ago, Kutch police also recovered abandoned packets containing the banned drug methamphetamine.
Police stated that packets containing narcotic substances have been washed ashore due to favourable wind conditions, likely after being dumped by smugglers in the deep sea to avoid capture.
Following the latest seizures, police have registered cases against unidentified individuals under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
On Sunday, Devbhumi Dwarka police reported that 115 packets containing 124 kg of charas, valued at ₹62 crore, had been found washed up on the district's sea coast over the past 10 days.
