Congress suspends 22 rebel candidates in Maharashtra over anti-party activities

On Monday, the Maharashtra Congress announced that it has suspended 22 rebel candidates for six years since they were involved in ‘anti-party’ activities, according to a statement from the party.
These candidates are running in the upcoming Assembly elections from 22 constituencies and are opposing the official nominees of the Maha Vikas Aghadi in the election to be held on November 20. Former minister Rajendra Mulak, who is running for Ramtek, Yagnyavalk Jichkar from Katol, Kamal Vyawhare from Kasba, Manoj Shinde and Suresh Patil from Kopri Pachpakhadi, and Aaba Bagul from Parvati are among the prominent leaders facing disciplinary action.
In addition to this, the other suspended leaders are named Anandrao Gedam, Shilu Chimurkar, Sonal Kove, Bharat Yereme, Abhilasha Gavature, Premsagar Ganvir, Ajay Lanjewar, Vilas Patil, Aasma Javad Chikhlekar, Hanskumar Pandey, Mohanrav Dandekar, Mangal Vilas Bhujval, Manoj, Vijay Khadse, Shabir Khan, Avinash Lad, Yagvalya Jichkar, Raju Jhode, and Rajendra Mukah.
On November 20, Maharashtra will vote to elect 288 members to its legislative assembly. The Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar's NCP, stands against the Maha Vikas Aghadi, which includes Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena, Sharad Pawar's NCP, and the Congress. The results will be released on November 23.
The BJP won 105 seats in the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, followed by the Shiv Sena with 56 and Congress with 44. The BJP won 122 seats in 2014, followed by the Shiv Sena with 63 and Congress with 42.
