Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly criticised the Congress during a press conference in Delhi. He accused the opposition party of twisting statements made in Parliament and taking an anti-Ambedkar position.
In response to criticism for his comments during the Constitution discussion in the Rajya Sabha, Amit Shah stated, "My statements were misrepresented. Congress spreads fake news. I can never speak against Ambedkar ji." Amit Shah further said, "They (Congress) distorted my remarks (on Dr BR Ambedkar) and presented them in front of the public. I urge everyone to listen to my entire remark, it will clarify everything. I come from a party and the society that can never insult Dr BR Ambedkar even in the dreams."
This comes after Amit Shah's comments in Parliament on Tuesday stirred controversy in the political arena. “Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai - Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. Itna naam agar bhagwan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata (It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. If they had taken God's name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven)," Amit Shah had said during his speech in the house.
The Opposition MPs strongly reacted, staging a protest inside Parliament today. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge held a press conference and called for the removal of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. "Our demand is that Amit Shah should apologise and if PM Modi respects Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, he should be sacked by midnight. He has no right to remain in the cabinet. He should be sacked and only then will people remain silent, otherwise, people will protest. People are ready to sacrifice their lives for Dr BR Ambedkar," Kharge said.
Meanwhile, Amit Shah retaliated by accusing the Congress of being anti-Ambedkar, anti-reservation, and anti-Constitution. Throwing light on the BJP’s efforts to honour Dr. BR Ambedkar, Shah remarked, “Congress governments never built an Ambedkar memorial. It was the BJP governments that developed several sites associated with him. It was also the Modi government that announced Constitution Day to honour his legacy.” The Congress holds a record of eroding constitutional values, Shah further claimed. “BJP speakers in Parliament presented facts showing how the BJP has always protected the Constitution whenever it was in power. This proves that Congress is anti-Ambedkar, anti-reservation, and anti-Constitution. It even insulted Veer Savarkar and attacked the Constitution by imposing Emergency,” he remarked.
