The Centre told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that since 2018, it has received official complaints against 18 NGOs for being allegedly involved in conversions into Christianity “by inducements, allurement and misrepresentation”.
Complaints have been received against 18 FCRA-registered NGOs in Andhra Pradesh, Union Minister Nityanand Rai said in Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The minister said the Foreign Contribution Registration Act (FCRA), 2010, provides a legal mechanism to deal with violation of its provisions.
In a written reply to a query, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai said, “Appropriate action has been initiated with respect to the complaints, based on the facts and circumstances of each case under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), 2010.”
He said such mechanisms include audit of accounts of such NGO, inspection of their accounts and records, and verification of their on-field activities and so on.
"The FCRA certificate of such NGOs may be suspended depending upon the facts and circumstances of the case. Such violations may also lead to cancellation of the certificate," he said.
The associations mentioned in the complaint are Metropolitan Mission; Swaantana Seva Samiti; Oikonomas Ministries; Bikkavolu Charitable; Herald of Good News Society; India Rural Evangelical Fellowship; Living Sacrifice Ministries; Life Givers; Salesian Andhra Society; Diocese of Nellore Society; Love-n-Care Ministries; Indian Christian Ministries; AMG India International; Shalom Trust for Relief, Education and Mission; Good Shepherd Convent; Samantha Community Development and Welfare Society; Harvest India and Sylom Blind Centre.
The question in the House was raised by YSR Congress Party MP K Raghu Rama Krishna Raju as to whether the central government had received any complaint against the violation of FCRA guidelines by NGOs in Andhra Pradesh.
