ICGS Sangram, one of the Indian Coast Guard's oldest Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPVs), was formally decommissioned, marking the end of its distinguished service. A memorabilia display showcasing the ship's historical journey and various accomplishments throughout its years of operation was a notable part of the ceremony.
ICGS Sangram was commissioned on March 29, 1997, in Goa by Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat, who served as the Chief of Naval Staff at the time. Initially based in Mumbai under the operational command of the Commander Coast Guard Region (West), the vessel played a crucial role in various missions, including anti-poaching, search and rescue, and medical evacuations.
Over its impressive 26-year service history, this 101-meter-long, 1888-ton ship sailed for more than 3000 days, diligently covering all of India's maritime zones, as highlighted in the official release. The ceremony featured a solemn Guard of Honour parade and a significant moment when the Coast Guard Ensign was lowered from the ship's mast for the last time, marking the conclusion of its dedicated service to the nation.
