Claudia Sheinbaum created history by becoming Mexico’s first female president after she was officially sworn in. Representing India, Pabitra Margherita, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs attended the ceremony.
“Honoured to represent India at the swearing-in of Dr. @Claudiashein as the first woman President of Mexico. Congratulations to the people of Mexico on this historic moment!” the MoS said, sharing a post on X.

Pabitra Margherita took charge as the Minister of State for External Affairs and the Ministry of Textiles in June of this year. Whereas, Claudia Sheinbaum, a climate scientist and former mayor of Mexico City, made history by becoming the first woman elected as President of Mexico following the June 2 elections. Sheinbaum will also be the first leader of Jewish heritage to hold the office.
Claudia Sheinbaum, aged 61, secured nearly 58 percent of the vote, according to preliminary results from the Mexican electoral office, as reported by The Politico. Expressing her gratitude to voters for their support, Sheinbaum described the victory as a historic moment, stating, “For the first time in 200 years of the Republic, I will become the first woman president of Mexico.” She emphasised the achievement of a “plural, diverse, and democratic Mexico,” reflecting on the significance of the occasion.
In June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Claudia Sheinbaum on her election as Mexico’s first female president, describing it as a momentous occasion for the people of Mexico.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Congratulations to @Claudiashein, Mexico’s first woman President-elect! This is a momentous occasion for the people of Mexico and a tribute to the great leadership of President @lopezobrador_as well.”
“Looking forward to continued collaboration and shared progress,” he added.
