The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has set up an Internal Quality Control Unit (IQCU) to boost the operational efficiency of its aviation security wing, which provides counter-terrorist protection to 68 civil airports across India.
A CISF spokesperson announced on Saturday that the IQCU will play a pivotal role in developing global security procedures and advanced technologies for airports, ensuring the safety of millions of domestic and international passengers daily.
The establishment of this unit aligns with the National Civil Aviation Security Quality Control Programme (NCASQCP) 2024, introduced by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), and the Aircraft (Security) Rules of 2023. The BCAS, operating under the Civil Aviation Ministry, is responsible for formulating security policies for the Indian civil aviation sector.
The IQCU's objectives include standardising aviation security procedures and training, recommending cutting-edge global technologies, conducting internal audits of CISF security units and protocols, and identifying areas for improvement. The unit will be integrated into the CISF Aviation Security Control Centre (ASCC) in New Delhi, which serves as the central hub for coordinating security across all 68 airports under CISF jurisdiction.
The unit will also extend its operations to airports covered under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAAN), further enhancing the reach and effectiveness of the aviation security framework. Led by a senior CISF officer, the IQCU will be supported by a team of certified aviation security instructors to ensure high standards of security training and implementation.
The CISF, comprising around 180,000 personnel under the Union Home Ministry, is India’s primary civil aviation security force. Approximately 50,000 CISF personnel are currently deployed to safeguard the 68 airports, ensuring robust counter-terrorist measures and passenger safety. This initiative underscores the CISF’s commitment to advancing aviation security and adopting globally recognised best practices to secure India’s rapidly expanding civil aviation network.
