China has once again called for an immediate stop to military operations against Iran, stressing that no country has the right to dominate global affairs or impose its will on others. According to China Daily, Chinese officials made it clear that equality and mutual respect among nations must guide international relations.
Lou Qinjian, spokesperson for the fourth session of the 14th National People’s Congress, addressed the issue during a press conference held ahead of the opening of its annual session on Wednesday. He said, “China maintains that mutual respect and equality between all countries, big or small, is what progress through history demands and also the primary principle of the United Nations Charter.”
He also stated that no nation should dictate the destiny of others, monopolise development advantages, or try to control international affairs. China reiterated that countries, regardless of their size or strength, must be treated equally under international law.
Earlier on Monday, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with his Iranian counterpart as tensions in the Middle East continued to grow. According to Al Arabiya English, Wang told Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi that Beijing supports Tehran in defending itself against strikes carried out by the United States and Israel.
Citing Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, Al Arabiya English reported that Wang said Beijing “cherishes the traditional friendship between China and Iran, supports Iran in defending its sovereignty, security, territorial integrity, and national dignity, and supports Iran in protecting its legitimate rights and interests.”
Wang also urged both the United States and Israel to immediately stop their military actions. According to CCTV, he said that China had “urged the US and Israel to immediately cease military operations, avoid further escalation of tensions and prevent the conflict from spreading to the entire Middle East region.”
In a separate phone call with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, Wang again raised concerns about the situation. As cited by CCTV, he accused the United States and Israel of “violating the purposes and principles of the UN charter” by “deliberately instigating a war against Iran”.
During the same conversation, Wang said, “China is also willing to play a constructive role, including upholding justice, striving for peace, and stopping the war through the platform of the UN Security Council.”
According to Al Arabiya English, Wang also held talks with France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot. During this conversation, Wang warned that the world could face a dangerous shift if powerful nations continue to act without restraint. He said that the international community risks a “regression to the law of the jungle”.
He further stated, “Major powers cannot arbitrarily attack other countries based on their military superiority.” Wang also added that “the Iranian nuclear issue must ultimately return to the track of political and diplomatic settlement.”
China’s statements come at a time when tensions in the Middle East have widened, with concerns growing about further escalation. Beijing has consistently called for restraint and peaceful dialogue. Through its official remarks and diplomatic conversations, China has emphasised the importance of respecting sovereignty, preventing the spread of conflict, and resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means.
The Chinese government has made it clear that it believes the current situation should not be allowed to worsen. It has urged the United States and Israel to halt military operations immediately and avoid actions that could lead to broader regional instability.
By stressing the principles of the United Nations Charter and calling for mutual respect among nations, China has positioned itself as supporting dialogue over force. Its officials have repeated that equality between countries, whether big or small, is necessary for global progress.
China’s appeal highlights its call for justice, peace, and a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, while warning against the dangers of military escalation in the region.
