China hosts first trilateral talks with Pakistan and Bangladesh

China, Bangladesh and Pakistan held their first official-level trilateral meeting in Kunming, China. The meeting took place on Thursday and saw participation from senior officials representing all three countries.
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong attended the meeting in person, along with Bangladeshi Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique and Pakistan’s Additional Foreign Secretary Imran Ahmed Siddiqui. Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch joined the first part of the meeting via video link before the in-person discussions continued.
In her remarks, Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch appreciated China for hosting the inaugural meeting of the trilateral mechanism. She said, “The Chinese side has done well in convening the inaugural meeting of the trilateral mechanism.”
Baloch highlighted the shared goals of the three countries. She said, “There are common aspirations of the three sides for people-centric development.” She also stated that Pakistan was interested in “deeper engagement between China and South Asian countries.”
She referred to the ongoing positive trajectory of Pakistan-China bilateral relations. She said Islamabad was willing to enhance its cooperation with both China and Dhaka across various sectors.
Baloch emphasised that Pakistan remained ready to work closely with China and Bangladesh to develop stronger partnerships in trade and investment. She also mentioned agriculture and the digital economy as key areas for future cooperation.
The meeting marked a significant step in regional engagement among the three countries. All sides expressed interest in continuing dialogue under the new trilateral framework.
