The Chhattisgarh Cabinet has approved a ₹500 crore Artificial Intelligence (AI) Mission, marking the state's largest investment in AI so far. The initiative aims to strengthen digital governance, promote innovation, improve skill development and expand the digital economy over the next five years. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at Mahanadi Bhawan.

The AI Mission is designed to prepare the state for future technological needs. It focuses on improving governance through AI, encouraging the use of emerging technologies and creating opportunities for innovation across different sectors. The programme also aims to equip students, government employees and startups with the skills needed to use AI effectively.

As part of the five-year plan, the state government will establish 100 AI Data Labs and set up five Centres of Excellence. These facilities will support research, innovation and practical AI applications. The government will also provide support to more than 300 AI startups, creating an ecosystem for entrepreneurs working in artificial intelligence.

The mission also places strong emphasis on skill development. Under the programme, six lakh students will receive AI training to prepare them for future careers. Along with them, 1.5 lakh government employees will also be trained to improve the use of AI in administration and public services. The state plans to introduce more than 50 AI-powered government services to make public service delivery faster and more efficient.

The initiative is aligned with the Centre's IndiaAI Mission. Through this programme, the state aims to position itself as a digitally advanced and future-ready destination that can attract innovation and technology-driven growth.

Apart from the AI Mission, the Cabinet approved the allotment of land at a concessional rate to Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), a Government of India Miniratna public sector undertaking. The land will be used to establish Chhattisgarh's first Heavy Earth Moving Equipment manufacturing plant. The project is expected to strengthen the state's industrial infrastructure and expand its manufacturing capabilities.

The Cabinet also approved the first phase of the Works and Account Management Information System (WAMIS) for the Public Works Department. The system is expected to improve the management of works and financial processes within the department through a more organised and digital approach.

In another key decision, the Cabinet approved amendments to the guidelines of the Chief Minister's Rural Road and Development Scheme to expand its coverage and make its implementation simpler. The earlier requirement of completing earthwork under MGNREGA before road construction has now been removed. The updated guidelines also include the construction of cement concrete roads and drains in internal village lanes under the scheme.

The ₹500 crore AI Mission remains the biggest highlight of the Cabinet meeting, reflecting the state's focus on adopting advanced technologies and preparing its workforce and governance systems for the future.
