The Centre has scrapped the special additional excise duty (SAED) on petrol exports while increasing the levy on diesel to Rs 11.5 per litre and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) to Rs 11 per litre. The revised rates came into effect on October 31, according to notifications issued by the Ministry of Finance.
Under the new notification, the petrol export duty has been reduced to nil from Rs 2.5 per litre. Meanwhile, the levy on high-speed diesel exports has increased to Rs 11.5 per litre from Rs 8.5 per litre.
Separately, Notification No. 56/2026-Central Excise has raised the SAED on ATF exports to Rs 11 per litre from Rs 10.5 per litre. The revised rates took effect on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
The Centre introduced export duties on petrol, diesel and ATF on March 27, 2026, amid the West Asia crisis. The move aimed to ensure adequate domestic supplies of petroleum products by discouraging exports.
The government has been reviewing these duties every fortnight. The revisions take into account average international prices of crude oil, petrol, diesel and ATF recorded since the previous review.
The export levies have undergone several changes since their introduction, depending on movements in international energy prices. In the previous revision, effective October 16, the government fixed the SAED on petrol at Rs 2.5 per litre, diesel at Rs 8.5 per litre and ATF at Rs 10.5 per litre.
The latest changes follow the government's regular review of export duties. The notifications were issued by the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance.
