The Ministry of Mines has cleared 58 companies to participate in the government’s critical mineral recycling incentive scheme. This marks an important move to strengthen India’s domestic capacity in managing essential minerals.
As per the ministry, the eligibility assessment process has now been completed. The Executive Committee approved 20 companies on 30 March, followed by another 38 companies on 29 April. These approvals are part of a larger effort to secure India’s access to critical minerals and reduce dependence on imports.
The scheme, titled the Incentive Scheme for Promotion of Critical Mineral Recycling, has a total financial outlay of ₹1,500 crore. It operates under the National Critical Mineral Mission and was officially notified on 2 October 2025.
The initiative focuses on promoting recycling practices for critical minerals. These minerals are essential for sectors like clean energy, electronics, and advanced manufacturing. By encouraging recycling, the government aims to build a more sustainable and self-reliant supply chain.
The participation of 58 companies is expected to improve infrastructure and technology in the recycling sector. It will also support the development of a circular economy, where resources are reused instead of being discarded.
Officials believe that this step will help India meet its growing demand for critical minerals. It will also reduce environmental impact by limiting the need for fresh mining.
The scheme is part of a broader strategy to secure mineral resources while promoting sustainable practices. With these approvals, the government has taken a concrete step towards strengthening both economic and environmental goals.
