The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has submitted its evaluation criteria for assessing class 12 students’ of 2021 batch, to the Supreme Court and said the results will be declared by July 31.
As The Indian Express first reported, the Class 12 result will be based on the Class 10 component (30 per cent) based on the best three performing subjects in the board exams, class 11 component (30 per cent) will be based on the final exam and class 12 component (40 per cent) based on unit test/mid-term/pre-board.
The board has put forth a proposal of cumulatively taking Class 10, 11 and 12 marks to compute the final marks for the students. Also, the marks scored by students would be moderated on the basis of the school’s historical performance, reported Times Now.
The following are the key points of the CBSE's assessment process submitted to the Supreme Court as reported by Times of India-
- "For evaluating a student, marks in best of three papers for Class 10 would be given 30% weightage, for Class 11 weightage of 30% and for Class 12 the weightage is 40%."
- "For Class X and XI the marks in best of three from five papers in term examinations will be considered. For Class XII the marks obtained in unit, term and practical's will be taken into account."
- Result committee will be there for each of the schools to rule out advantage to students in some schools, which traditionally give high marks to students.
- There will be a moderation committee to look into the difference in marking mechanism adopted by schools to put all students on an even keel as far as award of final marks for Class XII is concerned.
- Each school has to form a result committee to take into account the marks of a student obtained in the three examinations which would be vetted by moderation committee of CBSE.
- Historical performance of a school in Class XII board for last few years, the overall percentage of marks obtained by students in past years' board examinations will be taken into account for moderation purposes.
- Sanyam Bhardwaj, controller of examinations, CBSE, said that students will be given a chance to take the offline exams when the situation will become conducive. This provision will only be available for those who will not be satisfied with the result.
- The Supreme Court said there is no question of reviewing the CBSE decision to cancel the Class XII examinations. If needed there can be a physical examination later to permit desirous students to improve their marks.
- The Supreme Court in principle approved the CBSE's decision for taking into account the aggregation of marks of Class 10, 11 and 12 with specified weightages. The apex court said, "we are rejecting all arguments for physical hearing. We record prima facie concurrence with the CBSE decision on evaluation."
- Most counsel appearing for students concurred with the CBSE evaluation scheme.
- CISCE counsel J K Das informed the Supreme Court that it will take the performance of students in last six years while awarding final marks in Class XII.
In addition, Attorney-General KK Venugopal told Supreme Court that there may be a moderation committee to look into the difference in marking mechanism adopted by various schools to put all students as far as the awarding of final marks for class 12 is concerned, reported ANI.
