CBI seizes Rs 1.42 crore in FSSAI bribery case searches, total amount increases to Rs 1.8 Crore

Officials reported that the CBI confiscated over ₹1.42 crore in cash during raids at the residence of a manager from a Thane-based company. The manager was apprehended in connection with a bribery case alongside an assistant director of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Additionally, CBI arrested Amol Jagtap, an assistant director at the FSSAI regional office in Mumbai, along with Vikas Bhardwaj, the director of the company, and a company representative from Mumbai.
The agency seized two gold biscuits, a laptop, and incriminating documents during subsequent searches at Chougule's premises. Chougule faces allegations of paying a bribe of ₹1.20 lakh to Jagtap to clear pending bills of the company.
Officials reported that searches conducted at the residence of the accused yielded the seizure of ₹37.3 lakh cash, approximately 45 grams of gold, and documents related to various immovable properties, along with other incriminating documents.
According to the CBI spokesperson, the total cash recovered in today's operation amounts to approximately ₹1.8 crore, along with gold and gold biscuits, during various searches conducted after the trap.
Reliable Analytical Laboratories Pvt Ltd operates a chain of chemical laboratories notified by the FSSAI. The company is involved in analysing samples forwarded to it by the authority.
The FSSAI, a statutory body of the central government, is tasked with regulating the manufacturing, storage, distribution, sale, and import of food articles. Additionally, it monitors the quality standards of food articles sold in the country.
