CBI has filed a comprehensive charge sheet against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and numerous others implicated in the alleged land-for-jobs scam. The charge sheet lists a total of 78 accused individuals, comprising 38 candidates and several other persons. Additionally, the CBI has notified the court that it is still awaiting sanction from the competent authority.
Special CBI Judge Vishal Gogne has scheduled the case for consideration of the charge sheet on July 6. On May 29, the judge instructed the CBI to submit its final charge sheet in the land-for-job case. The court had previously expressed dissatisfaction over the CBI's failure to submit the charge sheet within the stipulated time despite previous extensions.
On October 4, 2023, the court granted bail to former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, Rabri Devi, and others in connection with a new chargesheet filed by the CBI in the alleged Land for Job Scam case.
According to the CBI, the second chargesheet implicates 17 individuals, including the former Union Minister of Railways, his wife, son, the then General Manager of West Central Railways (WCR), two Chief Personnel Officers (CPOs) of WCR, private individuals, and a private company, among others, in the case related to the Land for Job Scam.
Former Union Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members stand accused of involvement in the scam, according to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI alleges that during his tenure as Union Minister of Railways from 2004 to 2009, Lalu Prasad Yadav accepted "financial advantages" through the transfer of land properties in the names of his family members and others. These transfers were allegedly in exchange for appointing individuals to Group "D" positions across various zones of the Indian Railways.
It is further alleged that these appointed individuals, many of whom were residents of Patna or had family ties there, subsequently sold or gifted their land in Patna to the family members of the Minister and to a private company controlled by his family. This private company was also involved in transferring these immovable properties in the names of the Minister's family members.
