Top intelligence sources told News18 that Canadian police reportedly asked for $70,000 in exchange for protecting Hindu groups during attacks on temples. Hindu organisations are upset with the police for making this request.
“We are also tax payers. Why this bias towards us? The Peel police, instead of addressing our issues, is putting undue pressure on us," the Canadian Hindu groups were quoted in the report. According to sources, Khalistani organisations have been pressuring the Canadian government to call off the Hindu festivals. “The Trudeau government is under pressure before the Finance Bill to oblige Khalistani groups and his former ally Jagmeet Singh, the leader of Canada’s NDP," sources told News18.
“This is for the first time in the world that local police is demanding money to protect minorities," sources further said. The report follows a protest at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton on November 3. Unverified videos shared on social media showed protesters holding banners supporting Khalistan. The videos also showed fist fights and some people being beaten with poles.
Protesters carrying Khalistani flags clashed with people and disrupted a consular event that was organised by the temple authorities in collaboration with the Indian Consulate, according to PTI. Later, the priest of a Hindu temple in Brampton, Canada, was suspended for promoting "violent rhetoric" during the recent clashes between the protesters and the people at the event.
The violence started at a Hindu temple in Brampton on Sunday afternoon when a group called Sikhs for Justice held a protest while Indian consular officials were visiting. Peel police said officers were sent to the scene around noon. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau denounced the event, stating that every Canadian has the right to freely and safely practice their beliefs.
