The Canadian Security Intelligence Service, the nation's top foreign intelligence agency, has asserted that India may have played a role in meddling with the country's recent election, according to a recently accessed intelligence report. The report, made available to the media, categorizes India as a 'foreign interference threat' and emphasizes the need for the government to take additional measures to safeguard Canada's resilient democratic institutions and processes.
Canadian media outlet Global News has obtained a top-secret briefing report, revealing that the interference from India in the country's affairs could escalate if not addressed. The report underscores the urgency of intervention to mitigate the potential worsening of India's interference.
For the first time, India is facing accusations of election interference in Canada, as disclosed in recent reports. Previously, charges of meddling in Canadian politics were directed at China and Russia.
A declassified document titled 'Briefing to the Minister of Democratic Institutions on Foreign Interference' identified China as "by far the most significant threat," alongside other nations. The document sheds light on concerns regarding foreign interference and highlights China's prominence in posing a substantial risk to democratic institutions.
According to a report, the People's Republic of China (PRC) is engaging in foreign interference (FI) activities that are extensive in scope and involve a substantial allocation of resources.
