CAIT, the traders’ lobby, on Friday called for a boycott of all trade and commercial activities with Turkey and Azerbaijan, accusing them of openly supporting Pakistan after Operation Sindoor.
CAIT said the boycott includes a nationwide suspension of imports of Turkish and Azerbaijani goods. Traders across India have already stopped these imports immediately.
The association also stated that Indian exporters, importers and business delegations will be discouraged from engaging in business with companies or institutions based in Turkey and Azerbaijan.
CAIT plans to submit a memorandum to the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The memorandum will urge a policy-level review and re-evaluation of all trade relations with these countries.
The Confederation of All India Traders also declared that the Indian film industry should boycott movies shot in Turkey and Azerbaijan. It warned corporate houses against filming product promotions in these two countries as well.
This decision came at a National Conference of Trade Leaders organised by CAIT. Delegates from 24 states participated in the conference.
“Whereas the resolution reflects the recent stand taken by Turkey and Azerbaijan, openly supporting Pakistan at a time when India faces a sensitive and critical national security challenge,” CAIT stated in its official release.
“The Indian trading community considers this a betrayal, especially since India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has extended humanitarian and diplomatic support to both nations during their times of crisis,” the release added.
This collective response signals growing concerns within India’s trade sector regarding international partnerships that may undermine the country’s national interests and security.
