The Comptroller and Auditor General of India inaugurated the 'Chadwick House: Navigating Audit Heritage' Museum in Shimla. The event marks a significant milestone in preserving and celebrating the institution's rich heritage and its contributions to the governance of the nation.

The newly inaugurated museum at Chadwick House in Shimla has been transformed into a modern facility that showcases the evolution, achievements, and milestones of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). It marks a significant effort in preserving and celebrating the institution's historical legacy and its contributions to national governance.

Chadwick House, a prominent landmark in Shimla, holds a rich history that includes a notable visit by Mahatma Gandhi in 1946 during the Cabinet Mission. Following India's independence in 1947, it became home to a training school for the Indian Audit and Accounts Service, adding to its historical significance.

Over time, Chadwick House faced neglect and deterioration after the training school moved out. By 2018, the building was at risk of demolition due to a lack of upkeep. Recognising its cultural and historical value, the Supreme Audit Institution of India intervened to protect and restore Chadwick House.

In December 2020, a pivotal step was taken when the Supreme Audit Institution signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prasar Bharati (All India Radio), the then owner of Chadwick House. This agreement initiated the process of transforming Chadwick House into a museum, ensuring its heritage is preserved for future generations.

The museum at Chadwick House is divided into ten galleries, each offering a detailed exploration of the history, roles, and significance of the CAG. Through graphic panels, videos, dioramas, interactive displays, and artefacts, visitors gain a comprehensive understanding of the institution.

Exhibits include historical documents, artefacts, and photographs that chronicle the journey of the CAG. Cutting-edge features like digital archives, audio-visual presentations, and interactive kiosks enhance the visitor experience.

During the inauguration, Shri Girish Chandra Murmu highlighted the museum's role as a repository of knowledge and inspiration for future auditors.

Following the inauguration, GC Murmu expressed satisfaction that the museum effectively captures the journey of the CAG, a key pillar of democracy contributing to good governance through integrity, transparency, and accountability.

He emphasised Chadwick House's historical significance as a witness to pivotal moments in history and urged it to stand as a testament to its unwavering dedication to public service.

After the ceremony, GC Murmu conducted a guided tour of the museum, exploring exhibits that document India's auditing history, notable audits, and the CAG's significant contributions to national governance.

Visitors can engage with interactive displays, dioramas, and multimedia presentations showcasing influential figures and institutional achievements.

Located in Shimla at Chadwick House, where the Indian Audit and Accounts Service officers underwent training in 1950, the museum houses a collection of artefacts such as Remington typewriters, British-era franking machines, clocks, and trophies from CAG's field offices.

Featuring cutting-edge technologies like digital archives, audio-visual presentations, and interactive kiosks, the museum spans 10 galleries, each highlighting distinct aspects of the CAG's history and contributions.

Open to the public, the museum invites visitors from all backgrounds to explore and learn about the enduring legacy of the CAG.

The inauguration event saw the presence of members from the CAG's Audit Advisory Board, senior state government officials, and other distinguished guests.
