CM Ibrahim has orchestrated a profound split within the Janata Dal (Secular) JD(S), resulting in the expulsion of HD Deve Gowda from the party's national presidency. At a meeting convened by Ibrahim in a private hotel in KG Halli, Bangalore, the decision was made to remove Deve Gowda from his position.
Expelled leader CM Ibrahim, along with CK Nanu, who faced a prior expulsion, orchestrated the removal of Deve Gowda. Subsequently, Nanu was elected as the new national president. They have initiated plans to petition the commission for the party symbol under the leadership of CK Nanu.
During the meeting, three resolutions were passed, featuring the dismissal of Deve Gowda and the election of CK Nanu as the new party head. The emphasis was placed on the lack of consideration by both Deve Gowda and former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy for the state president's views on aligning the JD(S) with the NDA, deviating from the party's secular stance.
Despite multiple reconsideration opportunities, Deve Gowda maintained his decision to align with the BJP, leading to his removal as president during the recent plenary meeting. C K Nanu was elected as the new national president in Bengaluru. In Karnataka, C M Ibrahim and like-minded leaders gathered with five undisclosed MLAs, planning to reveal names once they reach 12.
Ibrahim asserted that he is awaiting the alignment of 12 MLAs to his cause. Once this threshold is met, the MLAs will collectively elect a new leader in the Vidhana Sabha, effectively replacing Kumaraswamy. This move follows Ibrahim's dissent against the JD(S) leadership, prompted by the party's decision to join the NDA.
C M Ibrahim declared the endorsement of the INDIA bloc in the Lok Sabha polls and revealed plans for constituency selection in Karnataka after discussions with leaders such as JD(U)'s Nitish Kumar, RJD's Lalu Prasad Yadav, SP's Akhilesh Yadav, and Congress' Rahul Gandhi.
Drawing a comparison between H D Deve Gowda and the Mahabharata character 'Dhritarashtra,' Ibrahim asserted that while one family (Gowda family) has distanced itself from JD(S), the remaining members remain loyal to the party. He claimed, "We are the actual JD(S), not an alternative." Ibrahim also emphasized the intention to approach the election commission and potentially take legal action to reinforce their claim.
Following the leadership change, C M Ibrahim clarified the decision was approved by the National Council. Plans include informing the Election Commission and seeking symbol allocation for Nanu's faction.
Nanu, now president, emphasized the Janata Party's ideological roots, pledging a January convention in Hubli with invitations to leaders like Rahul Gandhi. Nanu criticized Deve Gowda for abandoning principles at 92, signaling a shift in the party's decision-making hierarchy.
