According to BSF officials, drones are being launched from the different areas of Lahore and Narowal in Pakistan to smuggle drugs, weapons and ammunition into India across the international border. Forensic analysis has identified these two cities as the primary sources, with 184 drones originating from there, the highest number recorded.
Other Pakistani cities, including Okara, Bahawalnagar and Toba Tek Singh, have also been linked to drone activity near the India-Pakistan border. Officials revealed that some of these drones made multiple trips before being intercepted. Data shows that BSF successfully neutralised 284 drones, while Punjab Police intercepted 20, Delhi Police 2, and Manipur Police 1.
Officials stated that the BSF’s forensic lab in Punjab had examined many drones, as the force remains the primary agency intercepting them. Meanwhile, Delhi’s forensic lab has received a total of 307 drones between 2022 and 2025.
With a record 257 drones recovered this year along the India-Pakistan border and concerns over increased infiltration attempts, the BSF has deployed anti-drone systems to fight illegal drone activity. Additionally, extra battalions have been assigned to anti-infiltration duties to strengthen security along the Jammu Frontier. A senior BSF official stated that the force is constructing ‘lateral and axial’ new roads to improve both operational efficiency and the movement of troops.
Elaborating on the BSF's initiatives, he said, “New Design Fence (NDF) is proposed for the security of the border. CCTV/PTZ and bullet cameras have been installed in vulnerable patches for better surveillance of the border. Two additional Battalions in an anti-infiltration role have been inducted to maintain robust domination of depth areas of Jammu Frontier.”
“Gaps are being covered by the installation of Command & Control Centres and surveillance grids. A close liaison is established with all sister agencies in the border area and joint ops are being conducted. Anti-tunnelling exercises are being carried out,” he further said.
