Amid rising tensions on the India-Pakistan border, the Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday stopped a major infiltration attempt in the Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir. According to early reports, seven heavily armed terrorists were killed while trying to enter Indian territory.
The terrorists belonged to the Pakistan-based group Jaish-e-Mohammed and were likely trying to take advantage of the tense border situation to sneak into Jammu, as reported by India Today. An infiltration attempt was spotted in the early hours, leading to a swift response from BSF personnel stationed in the area. A short but intense exchange of gunfire followed, and all the infiltrators were confirmed dead. This incident comes at a time of rising tensions between India and Pakistan, especially after Operation Sindoor, where Indian forces carried out targeted strikes on terror camps across the border.
Security forces are now on high alert in border districts like Samba, Arnia, RS Pura, and other sensitive areas that are often targeted for infiltration. Loud explosions were also heard near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri. Meanwhile, in another tragic development, a woman lost her life and another was injured due to cross-border shelling in the Uri area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district on Thursday. A shell struck a vehicle travelling from Razerwani to Baramulla near Mohura. In the incident, Nargis Begum, the wife of Basheer Khan from Razerwani, lost her life. Another woman, Hafeeza—the wife of Razeek Ahmad Khan—was injured and taken to GMC Baramulla for medical treatment.
In addition, the Pakistani Army carried out artillery shelling on civilian areas in the Akhnoor region of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). According to news agency ANI, no injuries or casualties have been reported so far. This attack by Pakistan came just a day after India conducted Operation Sindoor, during which terror camps at nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) were destroyed.
