The Border Security Force (BSF) has successfully intercepted an illegal infiltration attempt along the India-Bangladesh border in the Murshidabad district, resulting in the arrest of four Bangladeshi nationals. The operation took place on October 15, 2024, at approximately 3:35 PM.
According to the BSF, the four individuals had crossed the international border using counterfeit Aadhaar cards. Additionally, an Indian intermediary who facilitated their entry was also apprehended. An official release from the BSF stated, “In a significant operation, vigilant personnel of the 73rd Battalion of the BSF South Bengal Frontier successfully thwarted an illegal infiltration attempt. The BSF troops apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals who had crossed the international border with fake Aadhaar cards, allegedly intending to travel to Chennai. Additionally, an Indian tout facilitating their entry was also arrested.”
The alert BSF personnel stationed at the Bamanabad Border Outpost noticed suspicious activity near the border, observing five individuals attempting to cross from Bangladesh into Indian territory. When the BSF troops raised the alarm and approached the suspected infiltrators, the individuals attempted to force their way across the border. A strong response from the BSF caused the infiltrators to scatter and seek refuge in the surrounding tall grass. The BSF quickly deployed Quick Response Teams (QRT), successfully apprehending all five suspects shortly after.
The detainees were taken to the Bamanabad Border Outpost for further interrogation. Initial questioning revealed that one of the individuals was an Indian tout while the other four were illegal Bangladeshi nationals. The Indian smuggler confessed to arriving at the international border on the same day to assist the Bangladeshis in crossing into India. He admitted to being promised Rs 4,000 per Bangladeshi national for his role in the operation.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the four Bangladeshi nationals had acquired their fake Aadhaar cards from a Bangladeshi tout based in the Godagari sub-district of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, each paying 1,000 Bangladeshi Taka for the documents. The arrested individuals, all hailing from Godagari, intended to travel to Chennai for labour work, as stated by the BSF. The suspects were handed over to Raninagar Police Station for further legal action.
