On Saturday, over 30 flights from various Indian airlines, including Vistara, Air India, and IndiGo, were reported to have received bomb threats, according to sources. The threats were directed at flights from several airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air, Vistara, SpiceJet, Star Air, and Alliance Air.
This week alone, at least 70 flights operated by Indian carriers have encountered bomb threats, the majority of which turned out to be hoaxes. Reports indicate that more than 30 flights, both domestic and international, received threats via social media since Saturday morning. Notably, a note was found in the lavatory of one flight claiming that a bomb was onboard.
Vistara confirmed that five of its international flights received security threats via social media on Saturday, while IndiGo reported that at least four of its flights were subject to security-related alerts. The affected Vistara flights included UK106 (Singapore to Mumbai), UK027 (Mumbai to Frankfurt), UK107 (Mumbai to Singapore), UK121 (Delhi to Bangkok), and UK131 (Mumbai to Colombo).
"Following the protocol, all relevant authorities were promptly alerted and all security procedures are being adhered to, as per the guidance from the authorities and security agencies," an airline spokesperson stated.
Additionally, there was a security concern regarding Vistara flight UK624 traveling from Udaipur to Mumbai. After landing, the aircraft was taken to an isolation bay for mandatory checks, during which a bomb threat note was discovered in the lavatory.
IndiGo issued statements regarding the threats affecting at least four flights: 6E17 (Mumbai to Istanbul), 6E11 (Delhi to Istanbul), 6E184 (Jodhpur to Delhi), and 6E108 (Hyderabad to Chandigarh). The airline acknowledged incidents involving flights from Mumbai and Delhi to Istanbul. For the Jodhpur to Delhi flight, IndiGo confirmed a safe landing and disembarkation of passengers in the national capital. After landing, the Hyderabad to Chandigarh flight was also isolated, with all passengers safely disembarking. Authorities at Chandigarh airport conducted thorough checks on the aircraft in the isolation bay.
On Friday, three international Vistara flights received bomb threats, which ultimately turned out to be false alarms, with one flight being diverted to Frankfurt as a precautionary measure.
In recent days, more than 40 flights operated by Indian carriers faced bomb threats that were later identified as hoaxes. In response, the Civil Aviation Ministry is planning to establish stricter regulations to prevent future hoax bomb threats, including placing offenders on a no-fly list.
