A bomb blast rocked the residence of Manipur’s Konthoujam MLA and state government spokesperson Sapam Ranjan Singh in Konthoujam Mayai Leikai, Imphal West, around 1:30 am on Friday. No one was injured in the incident, the MLA said.

The loud explosion caused panic among residents in the area. Singh said there had been no threat to him before the blast. He also said he had no personal enmity with anyone. "There was no prior threat, and I have no enmity with anybody. It's deeply concerning," he added.

The blast took place in the highly congested residential area of Konthoujam Mayai Leikai. The incident has raised concerns over the use of explosives in densely populated areas. Such attacks can put civilians at serious risk.

Singh condemned the incident and questioned the motive behind the use of bombs and other forms of violence in Manipur. He said such acts offer no benefit to the state and only create fear among ordinary people.

"What is Manipur gaining from such acts? What is the purpose? Without any reason, carrying out bomb attacks or any kind of secret violent activities. What is the gain and what is the purpose?" he said.

The MLA said such incidents serve no constructive purpose. He also said acts of violence can create a sense of fear and insecurity among residents. The incident has once again drawn attention to the security situation in Manipur and the safety of people living in crowded residential areas.

Following the blast, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited the MLA’s residence. He took stock of the situation and reviewed the developments following the explosion.

Strongly condemning the attack, Khemchand described it as a "senseless and barbaric" attack on the residence of an elected representative. He said those behind the incident would be brought to justice.

"I strongly condemn such a senseless and barbaric attack on the residence of a people's representative. This act of violence is an attack on our democracy and the perpetrators will be brought to justice soon," the chief minister said.

Local Meira Paibis also staged a sit-in protest at the MLA’s residence. They condemned the blast and demanded immediate action from the government. The protesters raised concerns over the location of the attack, pointing out that it happened in a densely populated residential area.

They said an explosive attack in such a locality could have caused serious civilian casualties. The protesters demanded that the authorities identify those responsible and take stringent action against them. They also called for steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The protest reflects growing concern among residents over their safety amid renewed incidents of violence in Manipur. The blast has also raised questions about the security of elected representatives and civilians, especially in densely populated residential areas.
