In a significant development, defense giant Boeing has officially commenced the production of Apache Helicopters tailored for the Indian Army. This crucial manufacturing process is underway at Boeing's cutting-edge facility situated in Mesa, Arizona, within the United States.
Renowned for their advanced technology and exceptional performance, the Indian Army's AH-64E Apache helicopters are poised to play a pivotal role in bolstering operational readiness and reinforcing the nation's defense capabilities.
This production endeavor is built upon a robust collaboration with Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL), a partnership that holds strategic importance in the manufacturing landscape. Notably, TBAL's role is pivotal in fabricating AH-64E fuselages, taking place at its state-of-the-art facility located in Hyderabad, India.
Noteworthy progress in this partnership was achieved earlier this year when TBAL successfully delivered the initial AH-64 Apache fuselage to the Indian Army. This milestone signifies a significant step forward in fortifying the nation's defense prowess.
“We are pleased to reach yet another significant milestone, highlighting Boeing’s unwavering commitment to support India’s defence capabilities,” said Salil Gupte, President of Boeing India.
“The AH-64’s state-of-the-art technology and battle-tested performance will elevate the Indian Army’s operational effectiveness and amplify its defensive capabilities”, read the press release.
Boeing's accomplishments in the defense sector have notably encompassed the successful delivery of 22 AH-64E Apaches to the Indian Air Force in the year 2020. This achievement underscored Boeing's commitment to enhancing India's defense capabilities.
Building on this achievement, Boeing forged a contract for the production of an additional six AH-64E helicopters specifically for the Indian Army. These helicopters are anticipated to be delivered by the year 2024, a development that further solidifies Boeing's partnership with the Indian military.
Christina Upah, the Vice President of Attack Helicopter Programs and Senior Boeing Mesa Site Executive, underscored the ongoing significance of the AH-64E. Upah stated that the AH-64E remains the premier attack helicopter worldwide, a testament to its unparalleled capabilities.
Boeing's engagement extends beyond product delivery, encompassing collaboration with more than 300 local Indian companies. This collaborative effort, coupled with a strategic joint venture focused on the manufacturing of critical components, reflects Boeing's vision of fostering a robust and interconnected aerospace ecosystem within India.
Beyond its role as a technical catalyst, Boeing's impact on the Indian economy is substantial. With an annual sourcing value exceeding $1 billion from India, the company's contributions extend to growth stimulation. The company provides employment to over 5,000 individuals within India, while also fostering collaboration with more than 13,000 supply chain partners. This multifaceted engagement goes beyond business to encompass community involvement and the implementation of impactful citizenship programs that touch the lives of over 500,000 individuals.
