A day after the Pakistani Army announced that all 33 Baloch insurgents who hijacked a passenger train with over 400 people on board on March 11 had been killed, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) dismissed the claim as false. On March 13, the BLA stated that intense clashes were still ongoing between its fighters and Pakistani forces, with the latter suffering significant losses. The group claimed responsibility for executing 214 hostages, allegedly Pakistani army personnel, and accused the Pakistani Army of refusing to negotiate, leading to their deaths.
BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch stated that Pakistani forces failed to respond to a 48-hour ultimatum for a prisoner exchange, leading to the hostages' deaths. “Baloch Liberation Army had given the Pakistani army a 48-hour ultimatum to exchange prisoners of war, which was the last chance for the occupying army to save the lives of its personnel,” as per the statement. “However, Pakistan, displaying its traditional stubbornness and military arrogance, avoided serious negotiations and turned a blind eye to the ground realities. As a result, all 214 hostages have been executed,” stated the BLA.
In its statement, the BLA honoured its members who were killed in clashes with Pakistani forces. “BLA pays tribute to the 12 freedom fighters martyred in this battle, who made an unforgettable sacrifice against the enemy. On Wednesday night, three freedom fighters were martyred, while last night, four more fighters lost their lives in combat. Additionally, five Fidayeen of the Majeed Brigade sacrificed their lives, dealing the enemy a defeat that will always be remembered in history”. The statement asserted that the BLA operated within the boundaries of international law.
The BLA named their operation ‘Darra-e-Bolan’ and stated it is ongoing. The rebel group said, "Baloch Liberation Army will release details about Operation Darra-e-Bolan to the media after the operation is completed. The battle is still ongoing."
On Tuesday, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) attacked the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express as it passed through the Mashkaf tunnel near Gudalar and Piru Kunri. The train had departed from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan. On Wednesday, March 12, the Pakistani Army announced that the operation to rescue the hostages from the hijacked train had concluded. The military reported that all 33 insurgents were killed, while 21 passengers and four Pakistani Army personnel lost their lives during the operation.
Lt. Gen. Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry stated, “The armed forces successfully concluded the operation on (Wednesday) evening by killing all terrorists and rescuing all passengers safely.” He said, "Today we freed a large number of people, including women and children. The final operation was carried out with great care," adding that 440 people were on board and security forces had cleared the train "bogey to bogey." However, the BLA rejected the Pakistani Army’s claims, calling them misleading. The group stated that the personnel whom the army claimed to have "rescued" were released by the BLA by its war ethics and international norms.
