Union Minister JP Nadda emphasised that women are central to the BJP's welfare agenda as he unveiled the first segment of the party's manifesto for the February 5 Delhi elections. During the launch, Nadda, a senior BJP leader, assured voters that existing public welfare schemes would continue under their governance and accused the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of corruption.
The BJP's manifesto, titled 'Sankalp Patra,' includes several measures aimed at supporting women. These include a one-time financial aid of Rs 21,000 and six nutritional kits for pregnant women. Additionally, mothers will receive Rs 5,000 for their first child and Rs 6,000 for the second.
Nadda also announced the introduction of the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, which will provide women with monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500. Criticising the AAP, he pointed out that the party had previously promised Rs 1,000 for women in 2021 but failed to fulfil this pledge in both Delhi and Punjab.
To address rising household expenses, the BJP promised a subsidy of Rs 500 on LPG cylinders and two free cylinders during Diwali and Holi. Nadda also pledged to implement the central government’s Ayushman Bharat health scheme in Delhi during the party’s first cabinet meeting if elected. The AAP had previously resisted this initiative, claiming its own health programs were superior.
The manifesto outlines additional benefits for senior citizens, including an increased health cover of Rs 5 lakh, bringing the total to Rs 10 lakh. A pension scheme for older people proposes monthly payments of Rs 2,000-2,500 for those aged 60-70 years and Rs 3,000 for individuals over 70. Assistance for Divyang individuals and widows would also be raised to Rs 3,000.
Furthermore, the BJP plans to establish Atal Canteens in every slum, where residents can enjoy full meals for just Rs 5.
Nadda, who also serves as the Union Health Minister, criticised the AAP’s Mohalla Clinics, describing them as “dens of corruption” and alleging a Rs 300 crore scam in their operation. He assured that if the BJP comes to power, these allegations would be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible would face legal consequences.
