The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced the reversal of its decision to suspend Telangana MLA T Raja Singh. This action comes after the party had suspended him in August of the previous year due to alleged remarks he made against the Prophet in a video shared on social media.
A press release issued by the party stated, “The central disciplinary committee of the BJP revoked the suspension of Shri T Raja Singh MLA Gosha Mahal from the BJP after due consideration of his explanation in response to the show cause notice served by the party.”
Singh's comments came several months following the suspension of Nupur Sharma and the expulsion of another party official by the BJP. These actions were taken by the party in response to remarks made by Sharma and the expelled functionary that were critical of the Prophet.
In a letter issued by Om Pathak, who serves as the member secretary of the party's Central Disciplinary Committee, “Under suspension, the Central Disciplinary Committee of the party issued a show cause notice to you. This refers to your reply to the show cause notice. Your reply and explanation offered therein have been considered by the committee. Basis your reply, the committee has decided to revoke your suspension forthwith.”
After the suspension was lifted, Singh expressed his gratitude in a post on X, previously known as Twitter. He extended his thanks to PM Modi, JP Nadda, Amit Shah, and other prominent BJP leaders. In his message, he stated, "I am thankful to the entire BJP family and the people of Goshamahal. Jai BJP, Vijay BJP," he wrote.
In a media statement, Singh expressed his confidence that the BJP would rescind his suspension, permitting him to run in the upcoming elections for the Goshamahal constituency. He emphatically ruled out any possibility of aligning with either the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) or the Congress party, affirming his commitment to the BJP.
The forthcoming Telangana elections are scheduled to take place in a single phase on November 30, with the results slated for declaration on December 3.
Notably, the Telangana MLA has garnered a reputation for making provocative statements along communal lines. In 2017, he was embroiled in a legal case when Hyderabad Police registered a complaint against him for allegedly issuing threats to "behead" those who opposed the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.
The BJP Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Goshamahal found himself in legal trouble when, on August 25, 2022, he was taken into custody by the police under the Preventive Detention Act. This action was initiated after he was accused of making derogatory remarks about the Prophet in a video response to stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui's show in Hyderabad.
Following his arrest, he was granted bail promptly. However, the state government opted to invoke the Preventive Detention Act against the MLA, leading to his confinement in the Cherlapally Central Prison. The legal proceedings took a significant turn in November when the Telangana High Court issued an order for the release of the BJP MLA, marking a pivotal development in his legal journey.
