BJP MP Harnath Singh Yadav has planned to present a Private Member's Bill for repealing Wakf board. This has become a subject of contention. Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) Member of Parliament (MP), Abdul Wahab, wrote a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, expressing his concerns and urging against the introduction of the Wakf Repeal Bill.
As events unfolded in the Rajya Sabha, it became apparent that the bill's introduction faced obstacles due to protests from Opposition members. The protests were centered on the issue of Manipur violence, causing disruptions in the proceedings. Consequently, the House adjourned without conducting any business, including the introduction of the Wakf Repeal Bill.
The Wakf Repeal Bill has implications for the administration and functioning of Wakf boards, which are responsible for managing and safeguarding properties and assets that are dedicated to religious or charitable purposes by Muslims in India. With its introduction as a Private Member's Bill, concerns have been raised by certain MPs, such as Abdul Wahab, regarding its potential implications and effects on the community.
As discussions and debates continue in the Parliament, the fate of the Wakf Repeal Bill remains uncertain. The bill's progression and eventual outcome will be closely monitored by various stakeholders as it pertains to the management and governance of Wakf properties and institutions across the country.
“The intention of Mr. Yadav in introducing such a Bill is an attempt to intervene in the faith of the Muslim community and establish the fact of his animosity and hatred against the Muslim community and their belief,” Wahab said.
According to the three-time parliamentarian, the establishment of the Wakf board serves the purpose of overseeing properties dedicated to charitable and Islamic causes. Aiming to reduce government interference in matters concerning assets related to the Muslim community. The income generated from these properties is intended to be utilized for philanthropic and religious objectives.
“A Bill to repeal such a crucial practice of faith amongst the Muslim community is against the interest of the Muslim community and a violation of constitutional rights offered,” Wahab said.
However, the Bill was not introduced as the Rajya Sabha got adjourned without taking up any business as Opposition members protested over the Manipur violence.
