Jamal Siddiqui, the national president of BJP's Minority Morcha, has filed a police complaint in Delhi against Maulana Sajjad Nomani, an Islamic religious leader. The complaint is related to a controversial fatwa that Nomani issued before the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Maulana Sajjad Nomani appealed to the Muslim community in Maharashtra to support the Congress-Sena-NCP alliance in a video that went viral. Nomani stated that he thought the central government may become unstable if the BJP lost Maharashtra. The Maharashtra government responded to the video by saying that the Congress and its supporters were attempting to split society as they were afraid of losing. The complaint also claimed that Nomani issued a fatwa calling for the boycott of Muslim workers linked to the BJP and for excluding them from Islam. A video of this controversial fatwa has been shared.
Maulana Nomani stated in a statement before the Maharashtra assembly elections that it was necessary to break off social and religious ties with Muslims who were affiliated with the BJP. He had also declared that their "hookah-paani should be stopped" since they had abandoned Islam. The religious leader's statement caused a political controversy, with different political parties having varying opinions on it. Considering the seriousness of the issue, Siddiqui wrote to the Delhi Police, urging them to take strict action against Maulana Nomani. The complainant also stated that the statement could lead to division in society and promote religious conflict, asking the police to take immediate action.
According to Jamal Siddiqui, who spoke to India Today TV, Muslim workers connected to the BJP are being socially boycotted as a result of Maulana's remarks. "They (Muslims) are facing contempt and threats at mosques and other religious places. Influenced by this statement of Maulana, many people are abusing and making indecent comments on social media," said Siddiqui, claiming that he and other workers are also getting death threats.
Siddiqui said in his complaint that members of the Muslim community are referring to BJP Minority Front executives as Ghanshyam. Consequently, a hostile situation is developing. "Because in his fatwa, the Maulana has asked to call the Muslims working in the BJP by the name Ghanshyam. Due to such a fatwa, there is a danger of division in society and the spreading of religious disharmony, including the life and property of Muslims working in the BJP," he said.
