As the deadline for filing nominations for the Haryana Assembly elections approaches, BJP leaders Sunil Rao and Satish Yadav joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday. Their formal induction into AAP took place in the presence of AAP Haryana chief Sushil Gupta and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.
At a press conference, Sushil Gupta welcomed Rao and Yadav, expressing his confidence in their future within the party. “They are joining AAP with strength, and I wish them a brighter future. Today, they decided in Rewari to join AAP and move ahead with the policies of Arvind Kejriwal. I welcome all of them and assure them that they will receive respect here,” Gupta said.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh highlighted that Sunil Rao, who is the brother-in-law of film actor Rajkumar Rao, will bring added value to the party. Singh emphasised that if AAP comes to power in Haryana, it will implement the five guarantees of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. These include free education, free medical treatment, and employment for youth. “Sunil Rao is a younger member of our party and comes from a notable family. AAP will focus on winning each seat and delivering on our promises. The five guarantees that have been successful in Delhi are now set to become a reality in Haryana,” Singh stated.
Singh also criticised the BJP’s governance over the past decade, accusing it of poor management and mistreatment of farmers and youth. He vowed to highlight these issues and work towards their resolution.
Earlier, AAP Haryana Chief Sushil Gupta remarked that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and AAP are emerging as a viable alternative in Haryana. He claimed that the BJP and other political parties are looking towards AAP as they see a future with the party. “Arvind Kejriwal’s vision for Haryana includes new politics focused on work, employment, a drug-free and corruption-free state, 24-hour electricity and water, jobs for every youth, security for women, and respect for farmers. Those influenced by these policies are joining AAP and seeing their future here,” Gupta said.
Gupta also noted that the list of candidates released by AAP so far includes its core workers, but the party is open to accommodating capable individuals from other parties if space allows.
The Haryana Assembly elections will be held on October 5, with the deadline for filing nominations set for September 12. The vote counting will occur on October 8, alongside the Jammu and Kashmir elections.
