In a recent development in Karnataka's political landscape, BJP leader NR Ramesh has lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta office in Bengaluru, calling for an investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Ramesh's complaint, filed on Saturday, targets Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and others, citing documents and evidence spanning over 400 pages.
According to Ramesh, Siddaramaiah, who previously served as Deputy Chief Minister during different administrations, allegedly influenced the de-notification of land in Devanuru Third Stage Layout and orchestrated the conversion of the same land under questionable circumstances. Ramesh further accused Siddaramaiah of disregarding protocols during his tenure as Chief Minister to secure 14 alternative sites totalling 39,000 square feet, later registered under his wife's name.
The BJP leader claimed that these allocated sites are valued between Rs 50 to Rs 60 crore, alleging misuse of power by Siddaramaiah. The complaint marks a significant escalation in political tensions in Karnataka, with BJP leaders demanding thorough investigations into what they claim to be several scams under the current Congress-led government.
In response to these allegations, R Ashoka, Leader of the Opposition Party, criticised the delay in probing these issues, questioning why it took 15 months since assuming power for investigations to commence. Ashoka suggested that while some funds might have been misappropriated by officials, a substantial portion allegedly made its way to Congress leaders in Karnataka and Telangana.
The BJP's push for accountability has sparked protests and calls for CM Siddaramaiah's resignation, underscoring heightened political confrontations between the BJP and the ruling Congress party in Karnataka. The Urban Development Department has initiated an inquiry into the MUDA allegations, promising transparency as the investigation unfolds.
