The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday issued a show-cause notice to senior Karnataka MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal, accusing him of indiscipline and public criticism of the party's state leadership. The notice comes in response to Yatnal's ongoing remarks against party leaders and his defiance of directives.
In the notice, the BJP alleged that Yatnal’s behaviour was undermining the party. It stated, "Your continuing tirade against the state-level party leadership and your defiance of party directives and making public pronouncements and stance in contravention of party's official stand on all matters of political and public importance has been reported in media as well as by different party forums."
The notice further highlighted Yatnal’s repeated violations despite prior warnings. "It is also a matter of great concern that despite having been issued a show-cause notice several times in the past and your assurances of good conduct, the acts of indiscipline continue unabated," it added.
Responding to the notice, Yatnal reaffirmed his stance in a tweet, reiterating his commitment to his ideological causes. "I will respond to the notice issued by the BJP Disciplinary Committee Chairman, while also presenting the facts regarding the current state of the BJP in Karnataka. My commitment to the fight for Hindutva, opposition to corruption, Waqf-related issues, and dynasty politics will remain unwavering," he posted.
The disciplinary action follows Yatnal’s initiation of a month-long "anti-Waqf march," which has stirred controversy within the state. The march began on November 25 in Bidar, North Karnataka, and is scheduled to conclude on December 25 in Chamarajanagar, in the southern region of the state.
This development highlights the growing tensions within the BJP's Karnataka unit, as the party grapples with managing dissent and maintaining organisational discipline.
