The Congress faced sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after it mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for missing the all-party meeting on the Pahalgam attack. The Congress shared a poster without Modi’s image, featuring the word “gayab” (missing), to highlight and question his absence. Although the Congress didn't directly name the Prime Minister, it posted a caption saying, "Disappears at the time of responsibility," following its repeated criticism of PM Modi for not attending an all-party meeting to discuss the Pahalgam attack.
Former Pakistani minister Fawad Ahmed Hussain Chaudhry also shared the poster, commenting, “Had heard about missing horns from donkey’s head, but here Modi has gone missing."
In response, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia held a press conference on Tuesday, displayed a screenshot of the tweet, and accused Congress of being a Pakistan supporter. He said, "There is a national political party that stays among us, but if we call them Lashkar-e-Pakistan Congress, it won't be wrong. This image of PM Narendra Modi has been tweeted by the social media handle of Congress. A strong message has been given to Pakistan that in India, the supporters of Mir Jafar are present here...'Sar tan se juda' has become the ideology of Lashkar-e-Pakistan Congress today...Such posts are done on the instructions of Rahul Gandhi, which makes the country ashamed. It is an attempt of Lashkar-e-Pakistan Congress to weaken India at such a sensitive time..."
The BJP responded on its official X handle, criticising Congress for the poster, claiming it "echoes the extremist 'Sar Tan Se Juda' slogan." The ruling party further stated that this reflects Congress's "continuous slide into Muslim League 2.0 — divisive, desperate, and directionless." Amit Malviya, head of the BJP IT cell, took to Twitter to criticise Congress, claiming their actions were aimed at appeasing the Muslim vote bank. He also accused Rahul Gandhi of provoking and justifying violence against the Prime Minister. "Yet the Congress will never succeed, for the Prime Minister enjoys the love and blessings of millions of Indians," he posted.
Following a controversy over the poster, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh told ANI that Prime Minister Modi was absent from the recent all-party meeting regarding the Pahalgam terror attack. He called for a special session of Parliament to discuss the incident and stated that PM Modi should brief the House on the grievous incident. “PM Modi was not present at the all-party meeting. We demanded on 22nd April that the all-party meeting should be held on this issue...PM Modi should participate in the discussions in Parliament and tell us what happened and how this terrorist attack took place. There is no political agenda. The Congress has only one formula- unity,” he voiced.
Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge have sent a letter to the Prime Minister, calling for a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam attack.
