The decision by the Congress-led government in Karnataka to appoint a Muslim member, identified as 'Nawaz', to oversee the Brahmotsavam event at the Shri Avimukteshwara Swamy Temple in Hoskote has ignited controversy and attracted criticism from the BJP.
The inclusion of 'Nawaz' in the Brahmotsavam Committee, tasked with organizing the traditional festival celebrated annually with great fervour, has sparked debate among orthodox members of the community.
The selection process, overseen by the Tehsildar upon MLA Sharath Bachegowda's request, resulted in the appointment of twelve committee members, with 'Nawaz' being the sole Muslim representative. Traditionalists have voiced discontent with this decision, contending that the committee should consist exclusively of Hindu members. This stance has sparked a significant controversy.
The Karnataka BJP, in a tweet that has since been deleted, voiced criticism regarding the composition of the committee. The controversy has extended to the Muzrai department, responsible for overseeing religious affairs in the state, as it grapples with the government's endorsement of Muslim representation in temple committees.
Accusing the Congress government of Hindu temple interference and resource mismanagement, the BJP alleged a bias towards a specific community. The party cautioned against what it perceives as a broader agenda aimed at depriving Hindus of their rights.
The controversy surrounding the appointment of a Muslim member to oversee the Brahmotsavam event at the Shri Avimukteshwara Swamy Temple in Karnataka reflects deeper tensions between religious communities and political parties in the state.
While the BJP criticizes the move as interference in Hindu affairs and accuses the Congress government of bias, others argue for inclusivity and representation within temple committees. As discussions continue, the outcome of this controversy may influence future decisions regarding religious governance and communal harmony in Karnataka.
