On Tuesday, senior AAP leader and minister Atishi accused the BJP of plotting to overthrow the Kejriwal government by imposing President's rule in Delhi through "back door" tactics.
Her statement follows a day after the President's Secretariat forwarded a memorandum from Delhi BJP MLAs to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for "proper attention," in which they alleged that Delhi was experiencing a constitutional crisis.
Speaking to PTI, Atishi stated that if the Kejriwal government is overthrown, the people of Delhi will respond decisively by giving the BJP no seats in the upcoming assembly elections, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will secure all 70 seats.
"BJP has a history of toppling democratically elected governments across the country through its "Operation Lotus," referencing similar situations in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Manipur," Atishi said.
Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, stated on Monday that the memorandum submitted by BJP MLAs to President Droupadi Murmu on Friday, calling for the dismissal of the AAP government over alleged constitutional violations, has been forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Gupta accused the Kejriwal government of failing to establish the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission, resulting in a "chaotic financial situation" in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. He also claimed that no assembly sessions have been conducted in the past five months and alleged that 11 CAG reports were being withheld by Minister Atishi, thereby violating constitutional norms.
"For the past five months, no files have been signed and no cabinet meetings have been held," he claimed.
Gupta alleged that the "paralysis of governance" in Delhi was due to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal being in jail for over four months on serious corruption charges related to the excise policy case.
Saurabh Bharadwaj, another senior AAP leader, echoed Atishi’s remarks. "They (BJP) have their own President, MHA, LG and the delegation. If they decide, it (President's Rule) will happen. They all are one," Bharadwaj alleged.
Gupta argued that the AAP government has consistently violated constitutional norms and, as a result, has no right to remain in power. He stated this is the reason why the BJP has called for its dismissal.
The Delhi chief minister has been in judicial custody since his arrest on March 21 in the excise policy case.
