Local media reports indicate that a bishop and multiple individuals were stabbed during a sermon in Sydney, which was being streamed online. The incident occurred on Monday night in the suburb of Wakeley.
Police were dispatched following reports of multiple individuals being stabbed, although they clarified that none of the injuries were life-threatening.
They further stated that a man had been apprehended and was cooperating with their investigations. The motive behind the attack remains undisclosed.
It was not immediately evident what weapon was employed in the attack, which reportedly occurred at the Christ The Good Shepherd Church. Local media have identified the bishop involved as Mar Mari Emmanuel.
In a live-streamed video capturing the sermon, a man dressed in dark attire is observed approaching the bishop before seemingly striking him.
Numerous individuals subsequently endeavoured to intervene, as screams of horror resonated throughout the scene.
According to a statement from the police, the injured individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are currently receiving treatment from NSW Ambulance paramedics.
All individuals injured in the incident are believed to be males ranging in age from 20 to 70. Local authorities have urged the community to steer clear of the area.
The stabbing incident follows closely after a tragic event where six individuals lost their lives at a shopping mall within the same city. Subsequently, the assailant was fatally shot by a police officer.
However, there is currently no indication suggesting a connection between the two incidents.
