On the occasion of Nagpanchami, Hindu religious processions in multiple locations across Bihar have fallen victim to attacks. According to reports, instances of severe stone pelting, vandalism, and clashes have emerged from Bagaha, Motihari-Mehsi, and other areas.
As per the available information, Bagaha district's Ratanmala witnessed the Mahaviri Akhada organizing a religious procession in observance of Nagpanchami. This procession had received prior police clearance, with law enforcement personnel present during the event. Nevertheless, the procession encountered a brutal stone-pelting assault while passing through a Muslim dominated locality.
Video footage of the incident captures mobs positioned on rooftops hurling stones at the procession. The footage also depicts police officers rushing to evade the volley of stones from adjacent buildings. Notably, a Zee News report highlights that despite a substantial police presence, the intensity of the stone pelting compelled even the police to disperse in order to ensure their safety. Cases of vandalism and arson have also been documented.
Similar incidents have been reported in Champaran, where Hindu processions were targeted. In Motihari district, confrontations have unfolded in three distinct areas – Mehsi, Kalyanpur, and Darpa. Stone pelters targeted religious processions by Hindus in these locations.
Reports from Jagran reveal that when police resorted to lathi charges to control the situation, they too became targets of the aggression, resulting in injuries to several officers.
Meanwhile, the situation in the region has reportedly calmed down, with SDPO Nand Prasad stating that the police are on high alert. He reassured that adequate police forces have been deployed and urged all participants to engage in the religious processions peacefully.
In the Motihari district, clashes have ensued in Mehsi, Kalyanpur, and Darpa. Amidst these incidents, a procession in Pipra, Darpa, was targeted by certain elements in Pachiyari Tola. The confrontation escalated into the exchange of bricks and stones between opposing groups. In a regrettable turn of events, Darpa SHO Dharmendra Yadav was reportedly injured during this incident.
