Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar secured a resounding victory in the Assembly floor test with a vote tally of 130-0, as the one-time ally RJD, led by Tejashwi Yadav, walked out of the House. The trust vote occurred two weeks after Nitish switched allegiance from the grand alliance, comprising the JD(U), RJD, and Congress, to the NDA bloc.
Addressing the Assembly, Nitish Kumar asserted that the RJD attempted to claim credit for initiatives he had initiated, while also alleging that the Lalu Prasad-Rabri Devi governments had failed to undertake significant developmental efforts for Bihar over a 15-year period.
During the floor test proceedings in the Bihar Assembly, CM Nitish Kumar remarked that RJD leaders Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi had a 15-year tenure to address the state's issues "prior to my election in 2005."
He asserted, "They claim that Muslims support them. However, what actions did they take? Numerous conflicts between Hindus and Muslims occurred during their tenure. The communal tensions ceased once I assumed office as CM."
Nitish Kumar emphasized, "I promptly addressed what they failed to do in 15 years. I have prioritized the development of all sections of society." Regarding law and order, he stated, "There has been a noticeable improvement, women now feel safe to move around even late at night."
Nitish Kumar further remarked, "Upon their return to power, they simply continued my policies and initiatives, now attempting to claim credit."
JDU has 45 MLAs, in the 243-member Bihar assembly, while BJP holds 79 MLAs. Furthermore, the alliance partner Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular adds four MLAs, and with the backing of one independent member, the NDA collectively comprises 128 MLAs, as opposed to the Grand Alliance's 115 MLAs. In order to secure a majority, an alliance requires a minimum of 122 MLAs.
Tejashwi Yadav, from the opposition party, took a jibe at Nitish Kumar in the Bihar Assembly, stating, "The people of Bihar want to know why you keep switching camps." Doubling down his attack on the NDA-JD(U) alliance, Tejashwi said, "Can PM Modi guarantee that Nitish won't switch camps again?"
"In the Assembly, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said, 'First of all, I would like to congratulate our Chief Minister (Nitish Kumar) for scripting history by taking oath for the 9th consecutive time. We have not witnessed such a wonderful scene of taking oath for the third time in one term,'" as he took a swipe at Nitish Kumar.
Tejashwi Yadav urged the JDU-NDA government to consider reintroducing the Old Pension scheme. Previously, while addressing, Yadav had remarked, "We regard you as a member of our family. We belong to the Samajwadi family...The nephew who once carried the flag to stop Modi's influence in the country will now carry your flag to counter Modi's influence in Bihar."
