The Bihar cabinet was expanded today with the induction of seven new ministers who took the oath of office. This expansion is seen as significant, given that the state is set to hold elections later this year.
The newly appointed MLAs in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's cabinet are Sanjay Saraogi (Darbhanga), Sunil Kumar (Biharsharif), Jibesh Kumar (Jale), Rahu Kumar Singh (Sahebganj), Moti Lal Prasad (Riga), Vijay Kumar Mandal (Sikti) and Krishan Kumar Mantoo (Amnour).
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, BJP's state President, Dilip Jaiswal, announced his resignation from the position of Revenue Minister.
Conversing with the news agency ANI, Jaiswal stated, "I am going to resign from the post of Revenue Minister. 'One person, one post' is the principle on which the party works. I am thankful that the central leadership has given me the responsibility of the party's state unit. Cabinet expansion is the prerogative of the Chief Minister.'
The cabinet expansion is set to take place just two days before the Bihar Budget Session begins on Friday.
According to sources, Union Minister JP Nadda and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently discussed the planned expansion after previous talks on the matter remained inconclusive. They also stated that the expansion would happen only after the central party leadership reviewed and approved the list of proposed ministers submitted by the Nitish Kumar government.
Several BJP ministers in Bihar are in charge of multiple departments. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha oversees three departments, while ministers Mangal Pandey and Nitish Mishra each handle two. Additionally, two new JD(U) ministers and representatives from the Rajput and Bhumihar communities may be appointed.
