On Tuesday, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj came with a notice in Lok Sabha to point out alleged inaccuracies in LoP and Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha speech from Monday. Lok Sabha speaker, Om Birla asked Swaraj about it and Swaraj asserted that Gandhi presented certain "inaccurate" statements in his speech on Monday. She further requested the Chair to cognisance of her notice.
After his speech on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address, Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Kiren Rijiju accused Gandhi of making "untruthful" claims about multiple issues including the Agniveer scheme and the Minimum Support Price (MSP). She also pointed out Gandhi's statement on the MSP and said that the central government has always been providing MSP support to the farmers and Gandhi's remarks that no MSP was given to the farmers was false and "contrary to facts."
Swaraj's request to bring cognisance to her notice comes under the Direction 115 of the speaker. This states that any member wishing to point out any mistake or inaccuracy in a statement made by a minister or any other member can, before referring to the matter in the House, write to the speaker pointing out the particulars of the mistake of the inaccuracy and seek permission to raise the issue.
The member may also present any evidence before the speaker, in support of the allegation. Any correction in factual position can be brought as a matter of notice by the speaker to the concerned member or minister. Earlier in the day, several portions of Gandhi’s speech were removed by the chair.
