Political tensions in West Bengal have intensified after controversial remarks made by Bangladeshi leader Mohammad Nurul Huda in support of Mamata Banerjee following the election defeat of the All India Trinamool Congress. The statement has triggered criticism as it included provocative comments against India and calls for West Bengal to separate from the country.
The controversy comes after TMC faced a major setback in the elections, with the Bharatiya Janata Party emerging strongly in the state. Despite the defeat, Mamata Banerjee refused to step down from the post of Chief Minister. She stated, “neither I have lost nor will I resign from the post of CM”. Her remarks drew strong reactions from political opponents and sparked fresh debate over the election results.
Amid the political developments, Mohammad Nurul Huda made statements supporting Mamata Banerjee and criticised the situation in West Bengal after the poll outcome. According to the report, the Bangladeshi leader urged the defeated West Bengal Chief Minister to declare the state independent from India. He further said, “Declare war on Delhi”, and claimed that 170 million Bangladeshi Muslims would support her.
The statement quickly gained attention because of its strong language and direct reference to India’s internal political situation. The remarks added to the already heated atmosphere in Bengal after the election results. The political climate in the state has remained tense since the defeat of TMC, with several leaders questioning the outcome and raising concerns over the election process.
The report also mentioned another reaction from Mohammad Salim Engineer, Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. Speaking about Mamata Banerjee’s refusal to resign, he said, “Well, that is her political stand and it is hidden in it that this mandate is not the right mandate in a way and this mandate is not the mandate of a common man through the Election Commission.”
He further added, “Maybe that's the message she wants to give. We also understand that the results that have come there do not really represent the opinion of the people and there is a kind of rigging on a large scale and the results have been changed, but obviously the resignation or not of someone will not stop the further process. The government will be formed and there are full provisions for it, but he has probably given this message through his statement.”
Following the election defeat, Mamata Banerjee blamed the Election Commission and the EVM process for the outcome. She maintained that the results did not reflect the real opinion of the public. She repeated that she had not accepted the defeat and would not resign from her position. Along with this, she also accused BJP of stealing 100 seats during the elections.
Mamata Banerjee raised multiple allegations against the Election Commission after the results were announced. Her comments and refusal to step down have continued to remain at the centre of political discussions in the state. At the same time, the remarks made by the Bangladeshi leader have added a fresh controversy to the situation and intensified reactions from various sides.
The developments have once again brought attention to the sharp political divide in West Bengal after the elections.
